Artist

Drawn to daily human interactions, Manar Abdelmaaboud uses Painting and collage to reflect on her own feelings of alienation, dissociation, and disembodiment. She investigates the relation between the mind and the body perceiving the world. The painterly interventions are a way to disrupt and mock the norms and normality of dominant socio-political systems, challenge their boundaries, and question the basis of control and agency. The work also attempts to capture how, while having a fragmented memory, a subject navigates and approaches reality layering on and off the many performative masks. Manar Abdelmaaboud lives in Brooklyn, and has earned her MFA in Fine Arts at Parsons, at The New School in New York City.
