Dedicated to listening and collective learning, this edition of NYAF performs curating through crisis as an exercise in critical endurance. With war and genocide actively inflicted upon Arab nations, our festival this year moves, away for a moment, from a celebratory tone towards a polyphony of listening, mourning, honoring, and speaking up. NYAF will look at our relations to our lands and habitat, to nature, and specifically to animals and animality, as many of us enter into confrontations where our humanity is put to a test, and sometimes even into question. The festival will feature several talks and debates, giving time and space to Palestinian artists and thinkers, many of whom are directly impacted by the genocide in Palestine. NYAF will equally continue its unfolding dialogue with Arab, Arab American and allied artists at large. A spectrum of events, from concerts to dance performances, film screenings to exhibitions and talks, as well as the recurring platform “Raseef” shall take place across several boroughs. Taking place in partnership with Poetry Project, Museum of Moving Image, La Mama Theater, Nublu, Jalopy Theater, and many others throughout April and May 2024, NYAF will present artists from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Palestine, among others.
